Finished

What an amazing course, thank you!

I have enjoyed learning and found the course great. It has been an enjoyable way to learn and the possibilities for libraries are great and endless. We just have to think what is the best way to implement and how to make our customers aware of what we are doing.

But I think it is going to be an exciting time ahead.....

Google Zoho

It is amazing that what was once so expensive is now freely available. Not only it is great to be able let customers know what they can do, but documents can be made more widely available to staff, and it makes commenting and changing documents easy.

Both google docs and zoho seem great. I personally like the way zoho is presented but they both seem to offer what is basically needed.

I have really enjoyed this weeks learning

Mashups are fun and would be great for kids activities and could probably be used to promote things in and around the library.

The more business like mashups would be useful but probably further into the future when we have a few more things up and running.

Podcasts

Podcasts are great, and something that can be easily utilised by the library. Just looking through the library success wiki there is an amazing variety in the use of the podcast. We could use podcasts book discussions, author talks, information about services that are offered and maybe for staff how to use certain resources??? The list is endless.

Answer Boards

It often surprises me on people seem to be unaware of what there library can do for them, or what librarian actually do. This is a great way of showing people we can search for an find information. But really, do they realise it is from a librarian? and will they think to use the skills of their local librarian? I* would like to think so, but I doubt it.
I'm not sure how it could be applied to the local library, but it is something to think about. We need to remind people what we can do.

Library Thing, Delicious, Technorati

All of these were interesting, and if only I had more time to spend on them all I think I would become addicted!!!!
I love delicious and how it can be applied to the public library, the AskNow resources are great and to have them easily available and accessible is fantastic.

Online Videos

Yep, I am trying to complete the course, but I do enjoy all the sidetrack and adventures that can be taken along the way.

This week has been interesting, anything in I can think of there seems to be a video on. The only frustrating thing is I must be using at a busy time as there are lots of pauses when I try to watch something.

Online videos can add a whole new level to what is available to the library customer and a whole new level of promoting what we have available for the customer. Great for both internal and external usage as well.

Now off to try and embed a video......

Wikis

Wikis are a fantastic way to share information and to keep ideas together and allow them to grow and grow.

Information an ideas that can be accessed from anywhere at anytime which is great for the library profession as we diverse and remote, all dealing with similar issues.

Now I have finally worked it out (I think!!)
Like everyone, it has been fun setting up the feeds. But I have to remember when I come across a new interesting blog to add it.
I'm still going. I feel like I have fallen further and further behind, but the truth is I get sidetracked very easily. So end up spending an hour and getting nowhere but seeing a lot.
I like the idea of the RSS, but for some reason am having trouble making it all gel together so I seem to have spent a great deal of time doing this week.

Where to start?

Finally I am up and running. I can't wait to get into everything and look at what we achieve personally and what can be used to assist our libraries and customers. I have found the biggest hurdle is making my creativity work. Setting up everything was painless, but coming up with a name, and something to write was difficult. Should i be creative, boring, geeky. I settled for boring. Hopefully I will become more inspired and creative over the coming weeks!!!
